Toilet Talk

2010 is the year of the bathroom. Well it is for us anyhow. We’re getting there with the house renovations s-l-o-w-l-y. Downstairs is all but done aside for a bit of accessorising and upstairs is on its way. Mr M is currently working on Little Miss’s bedroom and will be moving on to the Little Fella’s room before tackling the bathroom. I should explain this is not purely decorating, this is recarpeting, reinsulating, ripping down ceilings, replastering. It’s hard work and takes time which is a little frustrating.

Our bathroom is going to be made almost twice the size. It was too small and Little Miss’s bedroom had an unused ensuite so we’ve decided to knock the two together. Meanwhile I am on the look for inspiration. I kind of know what I want it to look like but not quite seen what I want yet.

Bathrooms I love are pictured below. I am not sure which, if any, of these are possible for us but I do know that Mr M might just go into cardiac arrest if I mention the word “cladding” to him after the downstairs toilet nearly finished him off. (images from http://www.idealhomemagazine.co.uk)

I think I have definitely decided on a roll-top bath and a separate shower. My shower requirements basically come down to a big shiny silver shower head, a curved screen and some of those Fired Earth Retro Metro style tiles behind it. Not entirely sure if our (non-existent) budget will stretch to Fired Earth prices so might have to check out a similar alternative.

We have two large windows in our bathroom so I need to think about what I am going to put on those but at the moment am swaying towards simple roller blinds made in a gorgeous fabric, and I also need to ponder over flooring and clever storage solutions. Towels are the bane on my life storage-wise and I WILL finally nail that problem.

I’m really looking forward to having a beautiful luxurious bathroom again rather than the 1980’s monstrosity I am living with now!

Watch this space – I’ll keep you updated with progress. In the meantime, please do share with me what would make your perfect bathroom.

love & kisses
Mrs M x

  1. We’ve just had our bathroom redone (horrid experience, bunch of cowboys despite been recommended …) and its at the simple white stage, I’m looking for inspiration to decorate and I love those letters above the bath that you’ve posted
