Why I Took a Jolly Good Blogging Break

Hi, does anyone remember me? No? I can’t say I am really surprised. I used to be quite a prolific blogger in days gone by (I was the original home of #mealplanningmonday ?) but over the past year or so, I’ve been somewhat absent from the blogging world so you’d be forgiven for asking…who?

I’m not going to lie, initially it was a tough decision to step away from blogging – I had built up an audience, good relationships with companies, made a small amount of money that helped to buy some treats – but life got a bit crazy and something had to give. Once I finally allowed myself to let go and relax about it, it didn’t seem so important anymore – especially when I had much bigger things occurring!

Moving to full-time work after twelve years, starting a new career in a brand new industry after twenty years, two children at secondary school, house move to a new area, divorce, new relationship, potential step-children…it’s been a little bit of a rollercoaster, to say the least.

In addition to the above mindblowing collection of life events, blogging had become a little overwhelming and I’d really lost sight of the pleasure aspect of it. Without it bringing me some form of pleasure – what was the point of continuing? I mean, that’s why I started in the first place, way back in 2005, when blogging really was just about sharing your life online. It was an enjoyable, creative outlet for me but it became less about a release and more about meeting deadlines – and it all got too competitive. The landscape has completely changed since I first became a blogger and there’s just no way I can’t keep up with pro bloggers. I simply don’t have the time. I wish I could have made a career out of blogging if only for the flexibility it would bring, but it’s just not for me.

Nevertheless, as my life stabilises a little, I find myself wanting to get myself back into blogging. A lot has happened to me in the past twelve months and I am ready to start sharing! So today I am taking my first tentative steps, knowing that there’s probably nobody reading this anyway! (If you are, please say hi!) I don’t imagine I will be blogging anywhere near as much as I used to, I may only manage once a week or so but I am going to try to slowly get back into regularly updating, and hopefully, you’ll come along for the ride!

PS The biggest conundrum is that I am no longer going to be Mrs M – blog name change?? What to do!
